WASHINGTON - If Americans are to keep increasing the use of corn ethanol in their cars, more contents stations such as the one Dave Hicks runs in rural Iowa will basic to install pumps that can dispense high levels of the biofuel.
Hicks, who's getting a $28,000 federal assign and additional money from the state of Iowa to replace his two existing stimulate pumps with blender pumps that can dispense varying levels of ethanol, said he wouldn't be doing it unless taxpayers were heavily subsidizing the $130,000 in new appurtenances. "We can't see the payout" on the pumps without the subsidies, said Hicks, indefinite manager of Producers Cooperative in Primghar, Iowa. "We can't create enough business off that to make it work."
But it's not clear how much money there will be for almost identical grants after Friday, when the current budget year ends, and the ethanol dynamism's allies in Congress have been unable so far to find other sources
