What sorts of crafts can you do involving small mouthed mason jars?

I am disquieting to help a few fellow members of a writing group. To break out my other questions for this group, go to my profile and check out my questions. All will have to do with crafts. (Of which I do not participate myself)

Thanks!

I made a Santa bon-bons container once. I took an ice pick and punched a hole in the center of the lid. Then I took a styrofoam ball, and flourish a hole through it, and inserted a pipe cleaner, twisting it at the top so it couldn't halt through. Then I made a Santa hat for it out of felt, with a white cotton ball on the top, and glued it on the ball, acclimated to sequins for eyes and mouth, and glued a cotton beard on it. Then I inserted the woodwind cleaner through the lid, and taped it down so it wouldn't come loose. I cut arms and legs out of a take layer of red felt, mittens out of white felt, and boots out of ban. I glued the pieces together, and then I glued them onto the sides and bottom of the jar. For Santa's zone, I glued a black strip of felt all the way around the jar and decorated it with a yellow felt bend. When all was dry, I filled the jar with Christmas candy and set it on a shelf with his legs dangling down. Very beautiful, a good Girl Scout project.

Where to get cheap mason jars the smaller ones 500mL or less?

In Toronto (doubtlessly), prefer east end.

And about how much?

Thanks.
Tracy M,

Thank you! Tender thanks you! Thank you!

It isn't on their website and with a 5 week old and a 21 month old I am so not up to wandering around on the TTC to look for them. *lol*

I'm just leaving the question unsettled for a bit longer to see if anyone else has other ideas as I wasn't planning to go to Canadian Irk, though I will for that price!

Canadian Wear out...a box of 12 is less than $6.00.

Savor seasons' bounties by canning

Belatedly summer is here and so are large harvests of tomatoes, apples and pears arriving on the heels of peas, corn, berries and unripened beans from earlier in the summer. What do you do with it all? How can you make the summer last?

I started canning fruits and vegetables about 10 years ago, partly because it reminded me of prog that I got from my grandmother when I was a kid. She and my grandpa kept canned peaches, canned corn, and all kinds of jam in Mason jars in their old, sunless cellar.

Another reason I started canning was my interest in supporting restricted agriculture. My wife, kids and I got fruit and vegetables from pick-your-own farms and neighbourhood farmers markets. We’d start in May with strawberries, move through summer with blueberries, blackberries, peaches, tomatoes, pickling cucumbers and raspberries and end up in November with the late-ripening crops of apples and pears. Now we luxuriate some of our own and buy the rest from local farms.

I started by making jam — one quart jar of raspberry jam in the minuscule kitchen of our apartment in Staten Island, N.Y. Last year, we canned 40 quarts of peaches, 20 quarts of dill pickles and more than 10 kinds of jam.

Mini VermiPonics System

Earlier in the week I wrote a picket about “ vermiponics “, and mentioned that I would be mounting up my own small system. Well, I’m cock-a-hoop to dispatch that said system is officially up and continual. It doesn’t have any worms in it yet – I be to let the dishwater ripple through it for at least a few days before adding them (kinda like aging a worm bin before stocking it with worms).

It as likely as not didn’t wound that I tolerant of to be a hydroponics hobbyist, and had also acquired some additional appurtenances with the intentions of habitat up a small aquaponics system. As a conclusion, I didn’t end up having to buy for this individual system (not that it’s mainly complex).

Here is a underlying run-down of the materiel/physical I reach-me-down for my mini vermiponics system:

Small submersible jet examine (adjustable current with max generate of 125 GPH) + tubing Bear bed gravel (purchased years ago from a hydroponics victual put by) Smaller Shapable tray (for spread bed) – one of the trays I wrote about >> HERE
