What brand of garage door opener is the most reliable?

I moral purchased a condo, and need to install an opener in my garage. Please let me differentiate of any openers that you particularly like/dislike, thanks.

Let me try and solution with a little more detail. We have 35+ years in the door business and here is our able experience:

Genie - Very popular but cheaply built. One of the cheapest openers nearby and rightly so. While we have seen some models last for years, they tend to set up having issues only several years down the road - especially if the door is obese or used often.

Chamberlain (the "box store" models) - These openers are conservative and built relatively well. They usually last quite a while if installed appropriately but will not out last the professional line, LiftMaster (as tends to be with any product).

LiftMaster - This is Chamberlain's mistress product line only available through professional dealers. These openers do tariff more but truly are worth the extra money in my opinion. You'll see the certain plastic parts are replaced by steel, biased chain & cable assemblies are replaced by full-length manacle, and three or four piece rails are replaced by a solid steel "T" scold. The avaerage life of these units tends to be one of the longest now handy - 10-15 years depending on door size and door operation.

In short, if you can fork out just a little more cash go LiftMaster, no fear. If you want cheaper then go Chamberlain from a "big box" stock. We don't recommend Genie to our customers.

How to I attach the garage door opener to the door when the opener has to be offset from center?

I have to set up my garage door opener off center by about 12" due to a girder in the way. How do I attach the opener to the door. I was thinking of running perforated standpoint iron from the the to closet vertical sections and connecting to that. Any other suggestions?

To recompense mount the opener arm to the door section:
As you said, run perforated intersection iron from the center stile to the next stile over. Use one piece as wellnigh to the top as you can, which would be just below the strut. (Make sure there is a strut on the top cross-section, it's required when using an opener.) Run a second piece 6 to 12" below it. Join a third piece vertically between the two, where it will line up with the opener arm. Don't waste time with the door set that came with the opener. Instead, attach the end of the operator arm to the vertical bawling-out you attached. Try to keep it in line with the top roller fixtures. Too low puts too much force on the door. Use a 5/16" by 1" bolt, but do not tighten it. Licence a little wiggle room for the arm. Use two nuts, and tighten them against each other. This will authority them on the bolt, while allowing the necessary space for the arm to move. Allow about 1/4".
