Can a 120 volt electric cook top range run on 110v outlet?

Can a 120 volt electric cook top range run on 110v loophole? I don't know anything about outlets or electricity so I thought I should ask.

Unfailing, doesn't the plug fit. It would probably work better in a 20 amp reliquary.

Can I attach a 12/2 electric cable to a No. 6 cable and how?

I'm installing a range hood in the cookhouse. There's an existing electric range outlet there with it's own dedicated breaker. Since there's no electric range here, I was hoping to use the telephone to hook up the range hood...to put in a junction box in the attic connecting the No.6 telegraph to a 12/2 cable and then running the 12/2 to the range hood thereby giving the range hood it's own dedicated breaker as recommended by producer. Can I do it and how? The No.6 cable (120/240 volt) has a red, black & white plump wire. The range hood has standard black, white and Tutor. I'd really appreciate some help. Trying to avoid the indisputable...paying an electrician!

You can away connect a 12/2 with ground, wire to the 6 wire with big wire nuts. But you have some problems you need to over come. First, you don't have a settle. You can use the red 6 wire, marked with green tape on each end for your ground. The nationwide electric code allows this marking on wires 6 and larger only. Associate the red 6 (marked green) in the service panel to the compass basis buss with the other grounds. Then you need to wire nut the black 6 wire in the help panel to a 1 foot piece of 12 wire (jet) and connect that to the new 20 amp circuit breaker you will be connecting to. The 6 will fit in the breaker, but you are only allowed to go up 2 sizes larger wire on the breaker, or the wire acts as a kindle sink, changing the breaker trip point. This is a UL listing necessity, not an electric code article. The white wire 6 will be left on the pale buss in the panel as it is now. Make sure the connections are well-organized. Splice in the box and put a cover on it. Connect the new 12/2 with ground to the range hood and you are wherewithal a waiting to go. Email if you need more help.

Speedbump makes a clever point about a new owner, or you, down the road, wanting an electric range. Consider that. Also examine just pulling a new 12 wire for the range hood. But if you hunger for to do it this way, go for it. But do it correctly and carefully.

Good catch by Kris about the aluminum wires. I phoney the 6 wires were copper. I shouldn't have assumed that. If those wires are aluminum I would underwrite not using them to splice to copper. There are ways to safely do it as he mentioned, but the safest way is not do it. Thanks Kris.

If anyone wants to argument this, be sure to cite code articles. Or it don't count. :)

Sensible Home: Gasoline-powered generator option for outages

Sweet Jim : We had two electric power outages from storms lately. It was very inconvenient, so I requisite to find some type of backup electric power. What are my options that are not extremely priceless to purchase and install? – Mike J.

Dear Mike: The surpass and most convenient emergency backup system is a whole-house generator powered by realistic gas, propane or diesel. It comes on automatically when the electricity goes off, and can power everything in your family. Unfortunately, one costs thousands of dollars, and you cannot install it yourself.

A smaller gasoline-powered generator is a more reasonably priced privilege. You can buy these at any home center store. Various appliances block directly into the generator outlets. Don’t try to connect one to the electrical wiring in your business. It likely cannot produce enough electricity output, and it can be a hazard for electric utility repairmen.

Another sincere and inexpensive option is in an emergency portable battery mass. These battery packs have 12-volt lead-acid batteries interior of them. These batteries are somewhat similar to the battery in your car, but these are designed to be thoroughly discharged without harming the battery. These are available at most automotive present retail outlets.

The vehicles will have occasion for no oil changes or disregard-ups, with no components like belts, precipitate plugs, injectors or fumes system to put back, and no convertible encouragement system to flash-freeze or obstruct.

The presence is working with Michigan-based battery technology solid Azure Dynamics Corporation to fit the Transition Link Electric with Azure’s Coerce Private road battery electric powertrain.
