Matched FALLS • Being able to bake cakes and eclairs is ticklish, but
can you make a career out of it in southernIdaho?
The Baking and Pastry Arts program is in its third year at
College of SouthernIdaho. We checked in with a few of the 25
students who have completed the way to see what they’re up to
now.
While there aren’t a lot of job or internship opportunities in
south-central Idaho, Baking and Pastry Arts coach Susan
Ettesvold said, the one-year CSI program can set up students for
culinary careers if they business hard enough.
“Students have to have their own drive and focus and goals,” she
said.
This be destroyed, 13 students are enrolled. When students complete
Baking and Pastry Arts, they be given a technical certificate. It’s
nice, but not as good as graduating from a two-year program,
Ettesvold said. She is working with the college to add a transfer
year.
Ettesvold makes it clear to prospective students that culinary
careers aren’t as magnetic as Food Network makes them out to be.
It’s hard work for tiniest pay and even less glory. According to
theIdaho Department of Labor, chefs and conduct cooks in south-central
Idaho earn an generally starting wage of $10.52.
