Gear Review - Carvin V3M
11.10.11
First troublesome out the humbucker equipped guitars, dialing in a Marshall prototype
classic rock sound was easily achieved on Medium 1. The V3M produced saturated crunch, sustain and overtones with the Les Pauls and the Hamer Particular. Picking dynamics were very sensitive, and coaxing a singing inaugurate tone by finding a sweet spot between the gain and loudness
knob settings was not difficult to dial in. The Drive boss had to be minimally adjusted to accommodate the differences in the pickup signals between the high-class output DiMarzios versus the
lower output Duncans and Gibsons in directive to achieve unity gain. I was squarely in the Mick Taylor, Scar or Jimmy Page tonal zone. Going to “Zealous” and the EQX definitely turbo charged the signal moving more into speck and metal, like Zack Wylde. “Thick” was rightly so, giving a heavy low end emphasis that would suit fans of detuned guitars. The secure structure seemed to be be more akin to a Hughes and Kettner amp at this setting. Changing to Trench
