Is this components safe to be around food
I wouldn't. Its not made to market heat and might emit noxious fumes into the food. I would assign a lid from plywood. A crockpot shouldn't get hot enough to affect it and plywood will put off the heat in the appliance better that plexiglass.
Anyone recall where to find one? I have a 5-qt round Rival Crock-Pot. It's only been used a few times and the lid handle basically honest crumbled to pieces. It was a gift last Christmas, so of course I don't have a return. Searching online I found that this seems to be a common problem.
Take the force out of the crumbled handle to any hardware store, get a handle that fits the warp and meets your aesthetic needs.

This system came about when Regent Hubby had us living in an RV since we wanted to go with him on a TDY that was a month elongated to this revolting go on called Florida.
