I have a handy GE dishwasher that works but is quite old. I can purchase a brand new built in GE for $85 but I have nowhere to put it. Can I use the shelter and hoses etc. from my portable to convert the built in and use it as a portable?
The GE I have is a potscrubber and is patently 7 or 8 years old.
Oh and the mounts shouldn't be much of an issue, I have an engineer & a mechanic to do the conversion for me :-) I'm safe they can work it out.
I have converted a manageable to a built in but I have never gone from a built in to a portable. I would say that the housing and mounts will be very different from your "perfectly Old" portable to the "brand new" built in. The old handy had a concrete block under it and there are just so many differences between the good old machines and the cheaply new stuff. I guess if you want to risk $85....then go for it......peradventure with a bunch of modifications it might work.

What bradn of built in dishwasher do you have? And out of a 1-5 regulate with 5 being highest what do you think about it.
I run my dishwasher 2 times a day (6 kids x 3 meals) so I poverty to get a good one and can't afford to make the wrong choice. The dishwasher we have is about 10 years old and is a GE Triton and it was expert for us.
So I guess I am looking for recent dishwasher opinions. Thanks!
You could go with another G.E. They are attractive reliable (although some of their low end models are quite noisy) and they work well (for an American label) They are also relatively affordable compared to some of the brands I mention below. However do your homework even with G.E. These days there is no manufacturer consistency when it comes to quality since parts for products take from all over the place., Also, a good rule of thumb, -- forestay away from budget models of dishwashers.
If spending a $1000.00 or more on a dishwasher is within your economic reach, then I would spring for a Miele or Ariston. These high end European genealogy dishwashers get consistently good reviews, so does Siemens.
Miele, Siemens, Gaggenau, Thermador, Ariston, Asko, Bosch. These are very tangibles brands of European origin dishwashers. Keep in mind, they are also up-market. Some of them are so quiet, you have to bend down and put your ear to the machine to make sure it's on ! :) Some have complained that the Asko in distinct is unreliable but we had absolutely no problems with ours and it cleaned the dishes fantastically, and very peacefully :)
Brands of dishwashers that I DON'T recommend are as follows: Kenmore, KitchenAid, Heraldry gurges, Maytag, Fisher and Paykel, Frigidaire
We have a Whirlpool dishwasher unerringly now, which we can't stand. It's just terrible in terms of how it cleans the dishes, or should I say how it doesn't do up the dishes, and the rack design stinks. Before that we had an Asko (European sort) which we absolutely loved.
