SPARTA -- Karl's Appliance is celebrating 70 years of utilization this month.
From it's humble beginnings as a small storefront in Belleville to expanding into six separate Jersey-based locations, including one in Sparta, Karl's Appliance is one of the oldest and largest concealed appliance retailers in the state.
Since 1941 when the business was founded, Karl's Appliance has opened stores in Montclair, Sparta, Madison, Orange, Fairfield, and most recently, Paramus. The Karl's Appliance that sat on East Clinton Way in Newton for 30 years was moved to a larger setting on Main Street in Sparta in 2008.
Dan Schwartz, owner and chief regulatory officer, said the first store was opened in Belleville, existing there for 69 years before it was closed and reopened in a new turning up.
Schwartz took over the family business in 1965 after graduating from George Washington
