dishwasher door won't latch closed?

Hi all!
i have a whirlpool gold series stainless steel dishwasher only 3 years old and all of a hasty the latch doesn't work. it is the type you press to explain when the dishwasher door is closed. now the door stays ajar. the handle panel still works, and there is nothing in the way stopping the door from closing. the handle is only just stuck or loose. does anyone know how i can fix it myself? just can't yield to call a repairman right now... thank you soooo much!
